Of tradition and craftsmanship – the history of Schwanekamp

What began in 1905 as a carpentry shop in a small village has developed into a globally active joinery producing furniture and high-quality furnishings.
Much has changed since then.
What has remained, however, is the love for our basic material wood, the joy in the finest details, the urge for the highest quality and precision and the attachment to our home in the Münsterland. “Quality is the product of love for detail”.

Johann Gerhard Schwanekamp

Company founder

In 1905 Johann Gerhard Schwanekamp founded the Schwanekamp carpentry firm, laying the foundation for the following generations. He was a much sought-after man in the area. At that time he had to cut the required wood himself in the forest. It was a special honour for him to be allowed to produce the furnishings for the newly built church in the village.

Wilhelm Schwanekamp

In 1922 Wilhelm, the oldest son, took over his parents’ business. Meanwhile he had 3 employees. The carpentry shop became a joinery. It consisted of a room of only 60 square metres in which most of the preparatory work was done. At that time it was still common to go to the people and finish the work on site.

Johann Schwanekamp

Johann Schwanekamp passed the master craftsman’s examination in 1953 and worked together with his father. Together they decided in 1954 to buy the first Tempo van to be able to serve customers in the Ruhr area. In 1959 Wilhelm handed the company over to Johann Schwanekamp. He concentrated on windows, doors and interior fittings for private customers. The production area had doubled twice during his lifetime and the number of employees grew to 29.

Josef Lepping

In 1995 Josef Lepping took over the company. He continued to invest in the expansion of office and production space, in employees and modern machinery. He ventured into the international market by founding the sister company MOprojects. A short time later, a branch office was opened in England. So customers all over the world enjoy exclusive furniture made especially for them.
